Questions about Shaker Internal Doors

What are internal shaker doors?

Shaker-style doors have a very simple design, with flat panels that are edged with a solid minimalist frame.

This door design was originally used for cupboard doors, but over the years shaker internal doors have become popular as well. When it comes to internal doors, shaker-style designs have broadened out, and you can now find glazed shaker doors, as well as internal bifold and shaker style French doors with a panel design befitting the design.

While shaker-style cupboard doors usually featured just one panel, internal shaker doors come in a much bigger range of designs. Single panel styles are available with two, three and 4-panel shaker doors also an option.

Are shaker doors solid wood?

Whilst our range of shaker style doors feature a solid engineered core as opposed to hollowcore, internal shaker-style doors do not have to be solid. Choosing a shaker style internal door with a solid engineered core adds a premium edge to your living space. Though they’re a weightier door, they do have the added advantage of being easier to fit/size correctly due to the solid, trimmable lippings whilst ensuring a more long lasting, durable solution.

There are also plenty of variations available that feature glass panels to let natural light brighten any dark corners in your home, too.

If you want to guarantee the largest amount of natural light possible in your home, then we have plenty of clear glass shaker-style doors to consider.

Alternatively, if you need to add light without compromising the privacy of a room, we have a range of glazed shaker doors with frosted glass as well. These doors will let the sun flow between rooms, while also blurring sightlines to keep each room separate.

Our shaker door range also offers a number of glass panel configurations to help you tailor the look of your glazed door to suit your own interior. Choose between one large clear glass panel the whole length of your door, half the length or even multiple panels of glass. The 'ladder' structure of our 4 panel single Shaker doors in particular makes an attractive addition to any room, bringing its own design elements.

Which interiors suit shaker style doors?

The simplicity of shaker style internal doors makes them a great match for minimalist and modern design schemes.

Of course, this doesn't mean that traditional homes won't benefit from the look of shaker doors as well. Afterall, the style itself is rooted in early 19th century New England crafts, where things were made with the bare essentials without embellishments.

Due to the style’s origin, the flat, minimalist panels of pine and oak shaker doors easily look at home in unfussy cottage and traditional interiors thanks to their rich wood grain and clean lines.

Whether you're looking for a rustic country vibe or you want to give your home a contemporary edge, our wide range of shaker internal doors will have plenty of suitable options for you.
